- Hi,
- NBC> I just managed to obtain the device in the subject for a really low
- NBC> price with the hope of using it in my A1200. Now, assuming that (a) the
- NBC> A1200 power supply has enough juice to drive it and (b) that it is
- NBC> possible to connect it to the IDE controller and (c) that I don't care
- NBC> that it is sitting naked on the desk with no case, is this possible? I
- NBC> realise that I'll have to get a device driver for it from somewhere as
- NBC> well as a CD9660 filesystem.
-
- NBC> Has anyone been able to do this yet?
-
- I'm hoping to do this (Put an IDE drive in my a1200). But, you have to make
- sure of a couple of things:
-
- You have an ATAPI drive. This is a must. But seeing as you've already got the
- drive you're stuffed if it isn't.
- You have some ATAPI software. It's on Aminet (idefix.lha) (atapi.lha) or
- commercial (asimCDFS). This is why you need an ATAPI drive you see :)
- You don't make your cable too long. IDE wasn't really designed for external
- devices, as it isn't buffered on the A1200, so keep it short (out thru' the
- PCMCIA port?) and try to avoid interferance.
-
- And regarding the PSU, there is a 50-50 chance of it putting enough juice out,
- but it's not hard to make a replacement from a PC unit, email me if you want
- some more info on this
-
- Hope this helps
-
- Chris
